Get Involved!
Throughout
the year, NAWBO®
GM needs your participation to make the most of this
wonderful organization! Following is a list of current
opportunities to help out, network even more, and develop
relationships with fellow NAWBO
GM members and others in the
community. Get
involved!
Community Outreach
- Showcase Your Business to Future Businesswomen!
In
the 2007-2008 programming year, NAWBO
GM will again partner with the Center for Teaching
Entrepreneurship (CTE) in Milwaukee
to introduce teenage girls to the world
of business. Research has shown that the
relationships formed through mentoring
programs make a real difference in the
lives of young people who are struggling
to succeed in today’s complex world.
This
small investment of your time is a huge
investment in our community’s future. The girls are part of a formal program at
CTE that teaches them about the many
facets of business. CTE’s mission is
to teach individual life skills and self-reliance
to be better employees and
citizens as well as entrepreneurs. Students
learn about
financial responsibility,
balancing a check book, saving money
and the importance of having skills and
being a good employee.
How
You Can Help
As a chapter
we can help the CTE by introducing a
small group of girls to several member
businesses from now through June.
This
is your chance to showcase your business
with a “behind the scenes” tour and
inspire future women business leaders in
this city while getting to know some of
your fellow NAWBO
GM members on a
more personal level. We are currently seeking members
who would like to participate in this
worthwhile endeavor by hosting a tour
of their business or volunteering as a
chaperone. The organization is also in
need of speakers who would like to meet
with the group to discuss a relevant
topic such as customer service, etiquette,
personal development, etc. through their
formal program. Please contact Deborah
Sanders to get
involved and make a difference in the life
of an aspiring business owner.
Communications Update
Participating in Communications for
our chapter is easy and can benefit your
business directly. In each issue, we will be
calling for your membership acclaims via
email. Please send us brief updates so you
can toot your own horn!
We hear that members want to learn
more about each other and businesses.
And so, we will be giving our members
the opportunity to interview each other
for a newsletter spotlight. Buddy up with
another member today, interview each
other, then send your spotlight interview
to Carolyn Kinney.
All interviews received will be featured
in upcoming issues of Facets 2007-2208. If the
response is overwhelming, we will draw
names for the spotlights as our space is
somewhat limited. All interviewers and
interviewees must be current with their
membership to be eligible. Articles should
be submitted electronically and should
contain no more than 300 words. One
digitized color photograph may also be
submitted. This is a great way for you to
become involved and can benefit your
business directly!
We also want your chapter photographs!
Please submit any meeting or relevant
chapter photographs to Communications.
Legislative Update
Requests for Action or Input
From time to time, we’ll be
asking what you think of legislation or
regulations that have been proposed or
introduced so that we can decide whether NAWBO
should take a formal position
on the bill or rule. Or, we may be asking
you to take action immediately to let
your representatives in Wisconsin or
Washington know of your support for
an action or position that NAWBO
is
advocating.
To learn more
about NAWBO’s Public Policy activities
or to participate in NAWBO’s Legislative
committee, please contact Legislative Director Lisa
Wood.
NAWBO-GM Business Card
Distribution
Pick
up a stack of NAWBO
GM business cards at any event, take
them with you, and
hand them out to other businesswomen you meet. The more
members our Chapter has, the greater our resources and our
influence. You know that NAWBO
has many benefits
to offer businesswomen, so please help us spread the
word!
An easy way to remember to pass along the
cards: Place them in with your own business cards; when
you distribute your card, distribute the Chapter's as
well!
